Dupuytren’s contracture is caused by an abnormal thickening of the tissue under the skin of the palm, causing one or more fingers to bend into the palm. Treatments aim to straighten the fingers and improve hand function, either through needle aponeurotomy to disrupt the cords under the skin, collagenase injections to weaken the cords, or surgery to remove the thickened tissues. After treatment, hand therapy focuses on stretching and extending the affected fingers to maintain correction and restore movement and flexibility.
